The Answer to a Works Righteousness Approach to Mission
Our pastor started a sermon series on I Corinthians today with the general theme of Threats to Mission. Today's focus was how a cult of personality can be a threat to authentic mission. The answer was that, not only is salvation by grace, but mission too is by grace (not personality, or gifting, or vision). If you have 30 minutes and would like to hear a gospel centered message on living out our mission in our culture, this is a very helpful one. The text is I. Cor. 1:1-3, 10-17; 3:1-9.

I am listening to it right now-thanks! Your church seems very similar to mine. I am in full-time ministry, so I need to hear this-thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Wendy. Looking forward to listening!! Pastor Mike Gunn preached a wonderful sermon on a very similar theme this Sunday too:

Thank you for sharing this message. I think this is a timely word for all of us in the church at this time. Here in Australia where I live the cult of personality is affecting our churches to a huge extent. Sadly, a lot of our "I follow..." is based on big names from your own country. Without at all discounting their work it definitely is true that when men become big God becomes small. I'm going to pass this on to as many of my friends as I can and be watching my own heart as I have fallen into this trap in the past and want to be watchful against falling into it again.
This sermon put my observations into words so eloquently and provided a fresh insight on that passage in Corinthians... many thanks for sharing.
